Research project on automatic data retrieval of global music genres

To boost the development of an improved automatic classification system based on music data, the Global Music Database project ran from February 2011 till November 2012. At the chair of Transcultural Studies of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, musicologists worked together with audio-engineers from Germany and Norway in pursuit of a common approach to understanding and analysing the most different musical styles, from traditional to pop. To form this team of musicologists, 20 renowned music experts from all around the world were chosen to identify and annotate the most distinctive music samples and characteristics of their music cultures.
